Green or Gestapo? Gore Wants You to Make the Connection
Former Vice President Al Gore recently spoke in London to encourage world leaders to unite against climate change, accusing politicians of exploiting ignorance of those who don’t believe global warming is taking place and touting President Obama’s early actions in office. (if you watch the video, linked here, you can hear Gore saying that the allocation of $80 billion in taxpayer money to environmental issues within weeks of Obama’s taking office is “good news from America”). Renewable energy sources are great-there is some end to the supply of oil on this planet, after all-but where Mr. Gore went with his passion for the planet borders on ridiculous.
As it turns out, Mr. Gore believes it necessary to compare fighting climate change to battling Nazi Germany. Gore stated that “Winston Churchill aroused this nation in heroic fashion to save civilization in World War II,” and now is our time to stand up to fight global warming in a similar fashion. A few years back, our president cast nations harboring potential terrorists, i.e. people with guns, bombs, and the capability to actually do violence with them, as an “axis of evil” and was mocked relentlessly for doing so by the media and the public. One wonders whether we will see the same widespread ridicule here or if the world will just accept the tenuous analogy between soldiers participating in a genocide and carbon emissions.
Even Gore recognizes his statement might have been a little over the top:
Mr Gore admitted that it was difficult to persuade the public that the threat from climate change was as urgent as the threat from Nazi Germany.
“The level of awareness and concern among populations has not crossed the threshold where political leaders feel that they must change.
“The only way politicians will act is if awareness raises to a level to make them feel that it’s a necessity.”
No word on whether Gore took a private jet to London for this event.
